IROICA initiated a sustainability strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of the IROICA conferences.
Actions that were taken to make the IROICA conference 2019 a more sustainable event:
- Travel
Look for alternatives to air travel. Lleida, Girona and Barcelona are well-linked to the high-speed train network. - Packing your suitcase
Bring your own bottle or mug for the coffee breaks. - Accommodation
Hotels have been informed of the IROICA conference green standards. - Getting about
Conference venues in Vic and the city center within walking distance
UVic Ecocampus electric car available for participants with reduced mobility. - No goodie bags
Recycled cardboard folder containing a programme and list of participant.
More material, such as local tourist information, paper or pens, only available upon request.Savings from this initiative will be allocated to the optional city tour, which will be free for all the conference delegates. - Catering
Reusable dishes, glasses, cutlery and tablecloths
Local and seasonal food
Only vegetarians and vegan dishes for lunch - Badge collection
after the conference

We are offsetting the carbon footprint of the conference by cooperating with Treecological. Part of the conference fees are transferred to plant an IROICA forest in Ecuador. |
